Peace and grace all–

This coming Sunday, June 19th (8:30am) proves to be all things celebratory with it being Father’s Day, Juneteenth and the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost during OUTDOOR WORSHIP, also Livestreamed. If you desire, please wear the Pray My Strength in the Lord t-shirts or some shade of purple and/or red. There will be a special saxaphone solo – Happy Birthday shout-out for 108 years young, Ms Olney and all June birthday celebrants. We will also celebrate Fathers and have a Juneteenth observance. See the attached program for the service (pdf).

All the lectionary scriptures for the day speak to liberation and freedom from shackles. Psalm 42 speaks to our souls wishing to be free as a deer panting for water; 1 Kings 19:1-15 reminds us of the prophet Elijah under duress and seeking solace and direction from the Lord. Luke 8:26-39 relives the life of a demon possessed and previously shackled individual who encounters the freedom-giving Lord Jesus, and Galatians 3:23-29 reminds Christians who have Faith in Christ that we no longer need a guardian, given former restraints and divisions are not what God intends for OUR future. Finally, Isaiah 65:1-9 reveals how God liberated Himself (if that’s even theologically possible) from a rebellious group, formerly called “His people,” and gave His spirit to faithful chosen vessels and servants who ultimately take possession of the Lord’s holy and everlasting mountain.

All said, this is the appropriate weekend and season to “hear the word of the Lord.” Don’t forget our church is serving meals at the Strawbridge Shrine on Saturday, June 18th (10am) and sharing in the NAACP sponsored, first Carroll County Juneteenth Celebration (Sat, noon-4pm) at the Carroll Arts Center on Main Street, Westminster. The weather for the weekend promises to be gorgeously cool and clear. Feel free to pass the word to all.
